Danone Nations Cup 2013
September saw the University of Surrey owned Surrey Sports Park host the 2013 Danone Nations Cup, a prestigious world cup football tournament for the best U12 national teams.
The tournament which was held over 5 days saw 112, 9-a-side games played on the Park's world class grass pitches whilst arenas and other outdoor areas were on hand for extra activities.
Delegations of all 32 teams stayed on-site with 715 guests per night. Catering was also provided at the venue over the 5 days, with two sittings of over 350 people eating at one time in a bespoke catering arena three times a day.
The event attracted worldwide media coverage with 250 journalists on site over the 5 days and a visit from former World Footballer of the Year and global ambassador Zinedine Zidane.
The tournament culminated in the final at Wembley stadium where over 25,000 spectators saw France lift the trophy with a penalty shoot-out win over Brazil.
"The facilities at Surrey Sports Park are fantastic. We took time looking for the right venue but in the end it was a pretty easy decision to make."
John Scales, Danone Nations Cup Ambassador
"The feedback we received, from both Danone and the delegations has been nothing but positive and Surrey Sports Park has been fantastic whether it be the venue itself, the accommodation or the catering."
